SERVO DRIVEN

The VSD (Variax Servo Drive) is an innovative drive system that allows Sankyo's high speed precision cam feeder to be driven by a servomotor. The VSD consists of a dedicated controller which receives position signals from the press to actuate an AC servomotor to drive the Variax. The resolver is mechanically coupled to the press crankshaft. An R/D (resolver to digital) converter translates the analog output from the resolver to a digital signal. Meanwhile, the servomotor is mechanically synchronized to the Variax input shaft which allows it to drive the Variax. The controller provides output in the form of thousands of pulses per press revolution which enable the feed servo motor to rotate in perfect and full synchronization with the press crankshaft position and speed.

Advantages of the VSD

1. Cam-drive performance
The cam mechanism of the Variax delivers excellent feed performance. Feed pitch and grip force are accessible in the same way they have always been with additional easy to use features that make the feed system much more flexible. Feed accuracy still controlled by the high precision Sankyo cam mechanism, not the servo motor. The servomotor controls the feed angle.

2. Feeder is accurately linked to the press
The VSD uses a resolver to obtain the absolute position of the press for accurate synchronization.

3. Adjustable feed angle and start angle
The feed angle and start angle are adjustable to match die and tooling designs, material specifications, etc.
