Long Strike (GY Series) - Linear Handling - Sankyo America (The Global Standard in CAM Indexing)

Sankyo's GY series features narrow cast iron housings with upright, inverted or side mounting configurations since it is grease lubricated. Globoidal cams rotate Sankyo manufactured needle bearing type cam followers. Optimizing the cam follower diameter inherently maximizes torque transfer and extends the life hours due to fewer rotations with increased surface contact. A full cycle (home-pick-place-home) is done with one input shaft revolution to easily synchronize with other equipment and share a common drive. The output arm is a linear slide mounted with multiple bearing blocks that support large bending and twisting moments to maintain rigidity. Offset tooling or multiple grippers mounted on beam are common applications. These units can apply forces in both directions within ±0.02 mm (±0.0008") repetitive accuracy. Vibration can cause flats on the cam and cam follower surfaces due to constant positive and negative torque forces. Our units dissipate vibration by using large mass internal components and rounding the X-Y motions transition to enhance the overall life span. All motions are customized to your application without extra cost.

Timing motions incorporate dwell periods for gripper response time while rotating the drive motor continuously. To extend the dwell times even longer, the unit can be fitted with a servo motor drive to change the motor speed accordingly. Servo or clutch-brake motor drives are used for frequent stop/starting applications. Our standard gearmotor or timing belt drives mount close to the housing width. Optional motor mounting on either side or behind the housing can reduce interference. Right-angle miter box drives easily connect to machine line shafts. Multiple photo eye timing sensors use adjustable cam/flags to safely interlock or check if the part is in place to avoid crashing the tooling. An optional linear torque limiter mounts between the handler arm and tooling to retract the tooling. Torque thresholds are easily adjusted without any disassembly and a photo eye sensor detects overloads.
