The DSS series is an indexing work-holding
tombstone designed to be mounted on the pallet of NC
machining centers. It can perform versatile machining
on five surfaces without re-chucking and ten surfaces
with the twin output option. This unit uses a roller
gear cam mechanism for smooth rotation and self-locking
in any of the 30, 45 or 90 degree, incremental positions.
Weighing 120-kg (264-lb), the rigid output fixture mounts
the part securely to minimize vibration chatter during
machining, grinding and finishing operations. Multiple
units can be mounted on the same pallet since they are
self-contained requiring no drive sources or no positioning
sensors.
To index the unit, a special bar is stored
in the tool holder and attached to the main spindle
with your automatic tool changer. Using the NC arc interpolation
program feature, the input drive cam follower can be
rotated one revolution for each index from either side
of the unit. Human interface is required for the initial
part mounting setup only. Setup time can be reduced
by up to 75%. Precise machining within ±2 arcsec
accuracy can be programmed to perform reversible indexing
motions. An optional hollow bore with twin output face
plates have multiple predrilled mounting holes for universal
fixture mounting to decrease setup and retooling times.
All materials are compatible with typical machine environments
regarding coolants, chips or grinding debris.
