Two types of sensors are offered, our standard is the photo eye type which sends a beam between two plastic posts. The timing cam's solid section acts as a shutter to break the beam and the open section allows the beam to continue. The other sensor type is a proximity switch that detects a lobe on the timing cam with impedance. Multiple timing cams can be mounted on the shaft for dwell detect or interlocking handlers before they interface with the rotating dial. Advanced timing signals can start peripheral equipment to optimize machine cycle times by compensating for electronic response times or motion lag.
Environmental compatibility should be considered when selecting the sensor type. Our standard photo eye sensors are IP50 rated (dust protection, no liquids). Most proximity sensors are IP67 rated (total dust protection with liquid immersion to 1-meter). However, alkaline (soapy water) coolants commonly used for machining and taping processes have a PH10 causing corrosion. Explosion proof sensors are also available.
